Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time
— Thomas Merton

Commission work (animals or human) is possible based on time availability and quality reference photos. (Though I am open to all animals, commission examples can be seen under the "Dogs" page.) Prices start at $100 for graphite/charcoal (up to 8 x 10” paper size); and $125 for work done on 5 x 7”/6 x 6”” scratchboard (plus shipping if applicable.) Price increases with complexity of work, larger paper/scratchboard size and poor quality images to work from. (I may turn down the commission all together if I don’t feel I have good enough source material – my goal is to create a solid likeness of your loved one and cannot do that with dark, blurry, or far away images that do not reveal needed details.)  You are more than welcome to mail or email me photos for a free no obligation price quote.   Once scheduled, I will ask 4 -6 weeks for completion time based on current project workload -- if you need the piece by a certain date, please ask so I can advise upfront it that will be a possibility. Once the basic layout is determined and the initial sketch is approved, artwork can take anywhere from 10 to 20 + hours to complete so I will require a non refundable 30% down payment before work is started. Once finished, I will ask for final payment before shipping or delivery of your artwork. Payment can be made by credit card, via Paypal, cash, or by check (please note if paying by check, art will be held until check clears.)

I am honored that you would ask me to do a portrait of your loved one and it is a request I take seriously. During the process I will send you updates and, if you'd like, scan of the progression. Some people prefer the "surprise factor" with only verbal updates, so when they do receive the finished art it is a totally new piece for them to enjoy.

the fine print: you would retain ownership of the original artwork for as long as you choose but I would retain all copyright images necessary for general advertising, reproductions, etc. (Your name will not be revealed to protect your privacy, unless you wanted to brag a little, ie: "Buster, Doberman Pincher proudly owned by Mary S. in TX")

Thank you for your interest!
